Luisa Capelão has been a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Directors of Access Bank Mozambique and has also been Chairman of its Governance, Remuneration and Nomination Committee since January 2022, after three years as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Directors of African Banking Corporation Mozambique ( BankABC).
Luisa Capelão is an economist with 45 years of experience in the banking, international cooperation, development, consultancy and advisory sectors.
After completing her degree at the Faculty of Economics of the Eduardo Mondlane University in 1977, Luisa Capelão joined the Bank of Mozambique, where she held the positions of Supervisor of the Foreign Exchange Resource Plan of the Department of Operations Overseas, Regional Director for the Nordic and multilateral institutions and Director of International Relations, for a period of 12 years.
In 1989, Luisa Capelão joined the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission in Mozambique, serving in different roles for 25 years, including Senior Advisor for Public Policy and Leader of the Democracy and Governance Team, until 2014 .
Luisa Capelão began a career in private consulting and advisory in 2015, with clients such as Management Systems International (MSI), Foundation for the Conservation of Biodiversity (BIOFUND), Bechtel Limited and DAI-Nathan Associates on the USAID Project, Promoting the Enabling Environment for Policy Development (SPEED). He is also a Member of the Advisory Board of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact Development Office, under the MCC Compact Development Program with the Government of Mozambique, since 2020.
