Coffee Capsule Project

The Eco-coffee Project consists of transforming Access branches located in Maputo into coffee capsule collection points. Since its launch in April, we have been working to collect and reuse these capsules, with the aim of reducing waste and promoting recycling.

The capsules collected are sent to a cooperative in Bairro de Chiango, where they are sorted and processed.

The aluminum and plastic containers from the capsules are reused to create handicrafts and jewelry, providing a source of income for local artisans. In turn, the coffee grounds are used as a natural fertilizer, benefiting urban agriculture and promoting more sustainable farming practices.

The project also includes educational workshops in the communities to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and reusing waste.

The initiative is being carried out in partnership with Reciclagem & Serviços Lda, a company dedicated to the environmental management and treatment of liquid and solid, industrial and domestic waste, which plays a key role in the logistics and training for the treatment of coffee capsules used by the bank's customers and employees. We also collaborate with Mega and Lokal. With these collaborations, customers and the general public have new collection points for used capsules, thus promoting more sustainable practices. The expansion of the project includes the placement of collection points in Lokal stores.

The impact of this initiative is already visible, with a significant reduction in waste and the creation of new products from recycled materials. This project not only reinforces our commitment to environmental sustainability, but also inspires others to follow suit.
